Right, yesterday I was looking for some answer how to get into my Sony Ericsson Xperia PLAY after I forget the password. It was little bit scary but I have the answer and want to share with you because I’m not the only one who keep forgetting password of Xperia PLAY.
The only way is wipe everything out of the Xperia PLAY. This is also called Factory reset. You are able to do it two different ways. Using Sony PC Companion Tool installed in your PC or just playing with the phone. I actually prefer the way without additional software in my PC. You can choose your one.
Before I start here is disclaimer.
Keep in mind, however, it is highly recommended to carefully consider whether or not it is worth the risk to damaging the Xperia PLAY. If the Hard Reset is not done correctly, consequences may occur, such as damage to the phone. I’m not responsible for any damage caused to your phone by this tutorial. Follow this tutorial at your own risk. With hard reset you will clean everything in your Xperia PLAY and set the phone to factory settings. Yes you’ll loose all apps, contacts, messages, etc. The phone will be “empty” like the day you get from the shop.
How to hard reset the SE Xperia PLAY
…using Sony PC Companion
Turn the Xperia PLAY off and disconnect it from the PC.
Run the PC Companion:
1 . No matter what the PC Companion says do not connect the phone until you complete step 9.
2. In the welcome screen if asked click on Start, next you will see what Media Go offers, click on “next” then you will see a presentation on what Support Zone offers, click on “Finish”.
3. In the next section from “Support Zone” and “Media Go” new select “Support Zone ” and click on start.
4. On the next page select “Software Update” and click on “Start”.
***At this point if you get an error stating that “unable to install update components” or “server is busy”, please proceed to step 12.
5. The PC Companion will say that there is no phone connected and will ask you to connect but disregard that and instead choose the option to “Repair Phone”.
6. Click on Continue.
7. After that, the program will download the necessary information (couple of minutes) and it will present you with a list of phones.
8. Choose Xperia PLAY by clicking on the icon for the phone and click on “Next”.
You will see a new section telling you how to connect the phone. (Don’t connect it yet!).
At this point the phone must be off and disconnected from the PC.
9. Connect the cable to the PC but not to the phone, then while pressing and holding the back key connect the cable to the phone and keep holding the back key until the program says “The update of your phone has started…” (In some cases a message of “Installing drivers” will appear before the message of “The update of your phone has started…” is shown.)
10. If the steps were not followed exactly the phone will turn on and it will request that you “Proceed with the following steps, slide down the notification bar”. If this happens disconnect the phone from the cable, turn it off and start from step 9).
11. If PC Companion proceeds correctly with the update it will tell you to release the back key. Wait for the update to finish and follow instructions on the screen.
12. If you receive the message: “Unable to install update components”
a. Close PC Companion
b. Install Java to your PC
c. Start PC companion again and try to do the software unlock process once more.
This was the advise from Sony representative. It’s possible to do it the exact way and if you follow every single step, you should hard reset your Xperia PLAY to factory settings.
How to hard reset the SE Xperia PLAY because you can’t remember the password, second round
This one is without installing any software to you PC, you actually don’t need PC.
- Turn the SE Xperia PLAY power off.
- Just in case or if your Xperia PLAY is frozen, pull the battery out for couple of seconds and reinsert it.
- Hold the Left and right buttons located beneath the display.
- Press and release the Power button of Xperia PLAY.
- Follow the on-screen instructions to hard reset your SE Xperia Play.
After that, restart your Sony Ericsson Xperia PLAY and start moving all your contacts and apps into it again because this will erase all contents and will restore into factory mode as I told you at the beginning.
